Announcing The Birth Of 4MB Interactive
By Tom Gilchrist
The eagle eyed among you (hi mum!) will have noticed a few changes have quietly been occurring over the last couple of weeks. Chiefly things like names and logos for Borderline Inappropriate Game Studios all disappeared and been replaced with a fancy new moniker – 4MB Interactive!
Yes I have rebranded the company for a second time except this time it was so much more effort than changing the Twitter profile as we are a proper legal entity and all that. But yes, Borderline Inappropriate Game Studios Ltd is no more and 4MB Interactive Ltd has risen from the ashes.
Way back when we were called Broken Pad Games because I was only making mobile phone games so thought that was clever but then when the idea of working on PC/console became a reality I realised that didn’t work and so Borderline Inappropriate Game Studios came to be. Over time I have grown to hate this name because it is simply too long to type out, also it just doesn’t even slightly mean anything.
So here we are – 4MB Interactive. This also doesn’t mean much but thankfully typing it doesn’t cause me to break out in a cold sweat. Actually there is some vague emotional history behind it, when thinking of new names I was randomly Googling old games and consoles and came across the fact that Sega Master System (my first ever console) cartridges held 4Mbit of data and so 4MB Interactive was born. Before anyone moans, yes technically 4MB is much larger than 4Mbit when it comes to actual memory, I know this. “B” looks more like a controller than “b” so I used some creative license.
I really see this change as a new chapter in the short and hilariously unsuccessful history of my games company. I have almost finished another post which will really go into detail on the future plans so keep an eye out for that one, this one is simply to say that Borderline Inappropriate Game Studios is dead, long live 4MB Interactive.
